Pawtuxet Multiuse Building

Situated on a prominent site in the heart of Pawtuxet Village, directly adjacent to the historic Pawtuxet Bridge, the proposed development at 9 Post Road introduces a thoughtfully designed mixed-use building that blends residential and commercial functions in a way that complements the character and vitality of the village.

At street level, the building will feature one to two flexible retail or commercial spaces, designed to engage the pedestrian experience, foster community interaction, and support local businesses. Above, the residential program includes two one-bedroom flats on the ground floor and four two-bedroom duplexes on the second and third floors, offering new housing opportunities within walking distance of village amenities.

The development also incorporates associated parking and landscaping that is both functional and sensitive to the scale and charm of the site. The new building will be positioned within the footprint of the original structure, with proportions, materials, and fenestration carefully selected to reflect the architectural language of Pawtuxet Village.

A defining feature of the design is a mansard roof, inspired by the Second Empire style, which establishes a meaningful dialogue with surrounding historic buildings and reinforces the village’s unique sense of place.
